As software developers you can imagine how many phones we buy each year and also how they get tested to destruction. We would normally just box them back up where they sit on a shelf forever or we keep the odd one ourselves .Well this is one of those occasions where we have come across a fantastic phone and have decided to actually make use of it.

Firstly this phone will not appeal to everyone as it obviously uses a qwerty keypad but however if you are a BlackBerry user and are looking for an alternative (like myself) then this is the phone for you.

As a Loyal BlackBerry user for many years i have become increasingly frustrated with the lack of progress on there OS.Compared to Android or any other platform it is very outdated.I have been looking for an alternative for a long time but have dismissed standard smart phones due to the lack of keypad which for me as a business user is a must due to all the emails that i answer while on the move.

Like most people i have overlooked Motorola due to the lack of promotion from the manufacturer and also the dodgy build quality of some previous models. However things have changed for the better! The Moto Pro + is actually a fantastic phone. With a 1600 mAh battery and a 640 x 480 pixel 3.1 inch touch screen its hard to beat for performance and spec.

Look at the quick list of features below:

TFT Capacitive Touch Screen

Anti Scratch Gorilla Glass

4gb Storage

Gprs, Edge, Hsdpa (14.4mbs), Hsupa ((2.0mbs), Wlan and WiFi Hotspot

Android 2.3 Gingerbread

Push Email

Adobe Flash Player

Fm Radio with RDS

Message alert LED the list goes on and on..

Reception is Excellent while making and receiving calls and in fact is much better than my BB 9900 or any other smart phone i have tested recently which also includes the excellent Samsung Galaxy s2.It never drops calls and holds a signal where others fail.In areas where i have no reception on my BB i have at least 2 bars of signal on this phone and am able to receive calls.

Battery life is also great. On other smart phones with widgets and social media running i am lucky if the battery will last a full day but with the Motorola it easily runs all day and night with no problems and plenty pf juice left.

Obviously the main plus point for me coming from a BlackBerry is the fact that it has the Android OS. The fact that i can now use live widgets is a major plus point.Unlike the 9900 i can now view live weather and news feeds aswell as social media feeds from twitter etc.For anybody in business this is important if you keep in touch with your customers or website visitors via Twitter or Facebook.Obviously living in the UK it is important also to get the latest weather reports (not that we expect anything other than rain most of the time anyway). Most smartphone users will already of course wonder what all the fuss is about but for a BB user this is just a revelation!

The touch Screen experience is also great. Its smooth and there is no lag. I can now also run my CCTV apps and have instant images via Push which i couldnt do previously with the limited BB OS.

The keypad is a little smaller than the 9900 but after a day or so is no problem at all to use.I actually like the fact that the keys are a little stiff to push. This stops mistakes being made and in my opinion gives a better experience.

It seems that everything has been thought of on this phone. From the Led notification to the dedicated @ email key and also the RDS radio. These little things make a difference. You can check out any forum and it is these things that most customers ask about.

The camera is only 5mp but has a dual led flash and geo tagging. For me this is ample although some users may find it a problem but remember this phone is designed for business users and in this market the camera is more than adequate.

Other little things that users will find a great help are the following. You can press the power button which will lock the phone and turn off the screen. Also it has an option to lock the handset when you put it into your pocket or case.It is this attention to detail that makes this a great phone.

Now you may think from this quick review that i am slamming the BB 9900 but this is not so. The market for business phones with a qwerty keypad is very limited and 99% of all business users will be already using a BB for this very reason.Other manufacturers with qwerty phones mainly cater for the social media and sms market and the phones simply are not up to scratch for the average business man.And so for this reason only the Blackberry which rules this market can be used for comparison. The problem is that BB users are becoming increasingly frustrated when they see the Apps available on android and other systems and what where as it was once the instant email that still attracted many customers this is no longer so with the introduction of Push mail to most popular handsets. Blackberry will soon be lauching there handsets with the new OS which will allow users to use android on there phones but until then the only phone i will be using is the Motorol Pro Plus!

Excellent build quality (although not as good as the 9900).

Great Touch Screen experience.

Great Battery life.

Excellent reception!

Highly recommended!
